RUNNING from brain-eating zombies through creeks covered in mud is something Rockhampton’s Tim and Katie Griffin do for fun.

“We went to New Zealand last year for the Run for Your Freakin’ Life five kilometre course where you have to run from Zombies through all of this haunted-themed infrastructure, it was a lot of fun,” Tim said.

Tim has been the driving force behind getting an obstacle course to come to CQ since last year, and this week he finally got his wish.

Shane Elisara, Obstacle Consultant and owner of Terrain Training Australia, said that the people of Central Queensland had been ignored for far too long and it was about time they have their very own Obstacle race.

Obstacles Gone Mad! is open to everyone looking to try something different on the weekend,” Shane said.

“If you’re brand new to Obstacle racing or if you have a few races already under your belt, Obstacles Gone Mad! will be the perfect way spend your time climbing, crawling, lifting and generally getting covered in mud with friends and family.”

The event will be held in the Yeppoon area, on July 19.

Tim, an IT manager who has now completed several courses said he had started a Facebook group called CQ Obstacle Course Racers for local enthusiasts to get involved in the action.

“I started doing obstacle racing after I wanted to get fit,” the 36-year-old said.

“I did the Warrior Dash course and I fell in love with it. It’s really starting to take off in Australia now; you could say it’s slightly established.” Tim said he hoped to see it become an annual event in CQ.

“It’s a great way to meet new people and there’s lots of variety in the obstacles, it really is just being like a big kid,” he said.
